海口市人民医院是集医疗、教学、科研、预防、保健和康复为一体的三级甲等综合医院,1997年被卫生部评为三级甲等医院，2003年成为中南大学湘雅医学院附属海口医院，2020年成为中南大学湘雅医学院海口临床学院，连续在2021年和2022年全国三级公立医院绩效考核中排名全省第2位,并首次跻身全国A级行列，创历史最好成绩。
医院占地面积约230亩，业务用房总面积23万多平方米，总资产约45亿元人民币。编制床位1700张，实际开放床位1833张，有42个临床科室、9个医技科室和5个综合门诊部。2025年门急诊病人146万人次、出院病人7.34万人次、手术1.91万台次。现有职工3031人（含海口市骨科与糖尿病医院105人），其中高级专业技术人员628名、中级专业技术人员1818名；享受国务院特殊津贴专家7人，海南省优秀专家16人，海南省领军人才10人，海南省拔尖人才96人；研究生以上学历468人,其中博士学历59人。为中南大学硕士和博士研究生培养点，有博士生导师14人、硕士生导师39人，2007年起纳入教育部统招计划面向全国招收研究生，2013年开始统招博士研究生。
医院有国家临床重点专科3个（麻醉科、泌尿外科、临床护理），海南省院士团队创新中心3个（周宏灏院士、陈孝平院士、周良辅院士），海南省临床医学研究中心1个（脑血管病），海南省工程研究中心2个（药物临床评价研究中心、放射医学影像大数据分析与服务研究中心），海南省医学重点学科和I级临床重点专科11个（麻醉科、泌尿外科、骨科、普通外科、重症医学科、神经内科、神经外科、放射影像科、急诊医学科、心血管内科、康复医学科），海南省优势特色专科3个（口腔种植科、肝胆微创外科、泌尿外科），海口市医学重点学科5个、医学特色专科3个、医学扶持学科2个、重点实验室1个。为国家卫生健康委脑卒中筛查和防治基地、高级卒中中心，国家住院医师规范化培训基地，国家全科医学临床培训基地，国家药物临床试验机构，国家老年疾病临床医学研究中心海口分中心，国家代谢性疾病临床医学研究中心海口分中心，国家博士后工作站，中国医师协会腹腔镜外科培训基地，中国医师学会人文医学培训基地，热带特色医疗国际科技合作基地，国家级胸痛中心。I期临床研究室项目通过了中国药品监督管理局和美国FDA核查。
医院拥有大量高端医学装备，其中达到国际先进水平的有：达芬奇手术机器人、高强度聚焦超声治疗系统、双C臂数字平板血管造影系统(百级净化复合手术间)、PET-CT、双源CT、256排CT、3.0T磁共振成像系统、电子直线加速器等。
医院坚持和加强党的全面领导，实行党委领导下的院长负责制，充分发挥党委领导核心作用，确保党的卫生与健康工作方针政策在医院贯彻落实。医院努力承担社会公益责任，注重医德医风建设，主动接受社会监督，积极建立良好的医患关系；在中国国际消费品博览会、博鳌亚洲论坛年会等大型活动医疗保障以及新冠肺炎疫情防控和患者救治中出色地完成任务。近年来医院先后被评为国家卫生健康委“进一步改善医疗服务行动计划”示范医院、“全国综合医院中医药工作示范单位”、“全国优质护理服务优秀医院”、海南省“医疗质量管理先进医院”等。
Haikou People's Hospital is a comprehensive Class A tertiary hospital integrating clinical care, medical education, scientific research, wellness and preventive medicine, rehabilitative medicine. Haikou People’s Hospital was accredited as a Class A tertiary hospital in 1997, then became the Haikou Affiliated Hospital of Xiangya School of Medicine in 2003. In 2020, it became the Haikou Clinical Teaching Hospital of Central South University Xiangya School of Medicine. In 2021 and 2022, the hospital ranked 2nd among public hospitals in Hainan in the National Tertiary Public Hospital Performance Appraisal for two consecutive years, entering the national A-grade tier for the first time in 2022, marking its highest achievement to date.
The hospital covers an area of 230 acres, with a total area of 230,000 square meters of medical buildings, and total assets of 4.5 billion yuan. The hospital has 1700 beds with capacity for 1833 beds, 42 clinical departments, 9 ancillary departments, and 5 comprehensive outpatient clinics/community healthcare centers. In 2025 the hospital has exceeded an annual volume of 73,400 hospitalizations, 1.46 million visits to outpatient and emergency departments, 19,100 surgical procedures. With a total of 3,031 employees (including 105 staff from the Haikou Orthopedics and Diabetes Hospital), including 628 physicians with senior professional titles and 1,818 with intermediate professional titles, the hospital now has 7 State Council Specially-subsidized Experts, 16 Hainan Province Outstanding Experts, 10 Hainan Province Leading Talents, and 96 Hainan Province Outstanding Talents. 468 have a master’s degree or above, including 59 with doctoral degrees. As a training site for Central South University master's and doctoral degree students, the hospital has 14 doctoral degree supervisors and 39 master’s degree supervisors. Since 2007, the hospital has been recruiting master's students nationwide under the Ministry of Education's unified enrollment program, and expanded the program to include doctoral candidates in 2013.
The hospital has 3 National Key Clinical Specialty Departments (Anesthesiology, Urology, Nursing), 3 Hainan Province Academician Team Innovation Centers (academicians Zhou Honghao, Chen Xiaoping, and Zhou Liangfu), 1 Hainan Province Clinical Medicine Research Center (Cerebrovascular Disease), 2 Hainan Province Engineering Research Centers (Drug Clinical Evaluation Research Center, Radiology Imaging Big Data Analysis and Service Research Center), 11 Hainan Province Key Clinical Specialty Departments and Grade 1 Key Clinical Specialties (Anesthesiology, Urology, Orthopedics, General Surgery, Critical Care Medicine, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Radiology, Emergency Medicine, Cardiovascular Medicine, and Rehabilitation Medicine), 3 Hainan Province Specially Supported Specialty Departments (Dental Implants, Hepatobiliary Minimally Invasive Surgery , and Urology), 5 Haikou City Key Clinical Specialty Departments, 3 Unique Specialty Departments, 2 City Supported Specialty Departments and 1 Key Laboratory Department. The hospital has been designated as a National Health Commission Stroke Screening and Prevention Center (High-Level Stroke Center), National Standardized Residency Training Hospital, National General Practice Clinical Training Center, National Clinical Drug Trial Center, Haikou Branch of the National Geriatric Disease Clinical Research Center, Haikou Branch of the National Metabolic Disease Clinical Research Center, National Postdoctoral Work Site, National Endoscopy Technical Training Center, Chinese Medical Doctor’s Association Humanities in Medicine Training Center, Tropical Medicine International Science and Technology Cooperation Center, and National Chest Pain Center. The Phase I Clinical Drug Trial Center has achieved dual accreditation by both the China National Medical Products Administration and the US Food and Drug Administration.
The hospital has a full array of advanced equipment, including the internationally renowned da Vinci Surgical System, High-intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU), Double C-Arm Digital Subtraction Angiography System (a 100-level Purification Hybrid Operating Room), PET-CT, dual-source CT, 256-slice CT, 3.0T magnetic resonance imaging system, cardiovascular imaging system, an electron linear accelerator, and so forth.
The hospital adheres to and strengthens overall Party leadership in all respects, and applies a system of hospital president responsibility under the leadership of the party committee. The hospital party committee plays the role of core leadership in carrying out Party health policies. The hospital strives to assume responsibility for social welfare, pays great attention to development of medical ethics, actively solicits accountability from societal stakeholders, and actively works to establish good doctor-patient relationships. The hospital has exceptionally fulfilled its responsibilities in healthcare provision for large-scale events such as China International Consumer Products Expo and the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference, and in prevention, control and patient treatment during the COVID-19 pandemic.
